Brammo Enertia Electric Motorcyle - On Sale at Best Buy ?

The Brammo Enertia is a $12,000 fully electric motorcycle that uses lithium phosphate batteries and lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber to eke out speeds of around 50 miles per hour and a range of about 45 miles.  It’s coming to a Best Buy in your neighborhood.  The Brammo Enertia is nearing production, with 200 orders already placed.

Located about 15 miles from MotorcycleUSA HQ, the Ashland, Oregon-based Brammo Motorsport produces the  Enertia electric motorcycle.    The founder and CEO of Brammo is Craig Bramscher

An electric motorcycle you ask your self ?  Targeted at the commuter market,  the Enertia has some very promising possibilities. The Brammo Enertia is powered by six lithium phosphate batteries and reaches speeds up to 50 + MPH, making it street legal.

According to the Brammo website:”The Enertia motorcycle is an urban commuter bike that exceeds 50 mph and 40 miles on a single 3-hour charge.

Only the LED display, with linear power meter, indicates the Brammo Enertia is running.  Although a 12K commuter motorcycle is a tough sell as America faces uncertain economic times, Brammo is moving forward with production.  And should be out in May 2009.  Daniel Wood, the brand director of Brammo Motorsports, in Oregon said,  “The motorcycle is aimed at the urban commuter who is looking for a solution for getting to work, school or somewhere else where the car is not necessary and a bicycle won’t hold its own in traffic.”

As we know motorcycles are fun, and this one could put some fun back into commuting.  Brammo software allows riders to dial in power delivery and throttle response, including separate throttle engagement and disengagement.    Without any gears the speed is either on or off, with a lot of coasting in between

So, the Enertia motorcycle is an urban commuter bike that exceeds 50 mph and 40 miles on a single 3-hour charge.  It sounds as if Brammo was successful in designing an electric two-wheeler that retains a traditional motorcycle feel.

Motorcycle USA got a taste of the Enertia’s attention-grabbing silence riding through the downtown of Brammo’s homebase, Ashland, Oregon, where we literally stopped traffic as curious pedestrians ran into the street to get more information.  You can see the video here, Bnet

Actually with a 10 percent federal tax credit the price gets down to $10,000. Not too bad and there are rumblings that the bike will be available through Best Buy.
